Why Study In Australia?

Australia offers a combination of world-class education, career opportunities and lifestyle benefits that few other countries can match. Its universities consistently rank high worldwide for academic excellence and research strength, particularly in engineering, information technology, business, medicine, environmental sciences and creative arts. Degrees earned in Australia are globally recognised, enhancing job prospects across international markets.

The country’s education system is designed to prepare graduates for the professional world. Industry partnerships, internship opportunities, research collaborations and project-based learning are widely integrated, enabling students to graduate with highly relevant and practical experience. The availability of multiple pathways—foundation programs, TAFE, vocational education, bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral studies—ensures flexibility regardless of academic background.

Post-study opportunities are another major attraction. Through the Temporary Graduate Visa, eligible students can obtain valuable work experience in Australia after completing their qualifications. This equips them with international exposure and can support long-term migration plans. Australia also offers a welcoming, multicultural society with strong student protections, making it a secure and supportive environment for international learners.

Life In Australia?

International students experience a vibrant and comfortable lifestyle in Australia. Cities such as Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide are known for clean environments, modern infrastructure, efficient public transport and lively cultural atmospheres. Students can choose from a wide range of accommodation options including on-campus residences, private rentals, homestays and purpose-built student accommodations.

Living costs vary depending on the city, but students typically budget for housing, food, utilities, transport, study materials and health insurance. Many students work part-time to support their living expenses, as Australian student visas permit up to 48 hours of work per fortnight during study periods and full-time work during breaks.

Australia’s healthcare system is one of the best globally. International students receive medical coverage through Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC), ensuring access to essential healthcare services. In addition, universities offer extensive support services such as academic assistance, counselling, orientation programs and employment workshops.

With a strong emphasis on work–life balance, Australia offers an active outdoor lifestyle. Students enjoy beaches, mountains, wildlife, parks, cultural festivals, sports events and a wide range of recreational activities. The welcoming environment allows students to integrate easily and build friendships with people from around the world.

KEEP SCROLING

01

Intakes

Australian institutions typically offer two major intakes each year:

February (Semester 1): The primary and most popular intake with the widest program availability.

July (Semester 2): A mid-year intake offering entry into many undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

Some universities also offer additional intakes in October or November, especially for business and postgraduate coursework programs. Students are advised to begin their application process 9–12 months in advance to secure admission, complete English testing and gather financial documents.

02

Language Requirements

Entry requirements differ by program and institution, but most universities accept the following English proficiency tests:
IELTS Academic:

Undergraduate: typically 6.0 overall

Postgraduate: typically 6.5 overall

Specific programs may require higher scores.
TOEFL iBT:
Accepted by most universities with score requirements equivalent to IELTS.
PTE Academic:
Widely accepted with minimum scores around 50–58 for undergraduate and 58–65+ for postgraduate programs.
Cambridge English (C1 Advanced / C2 Proficiency):

Required scores vary depending on level and field of study.

Students should verify the latest English requirements and ensure the test version taken is eligible for visa purposes.

03

Visa

International students pursuing full-time study require the Student Visa (Subclass 500).

This visa generally allows:

• Study in a CRICOS-registered course

• Stay in Australia for up to five years depending on course duration

• Part-time work rights during study periods

• Full-time work rights during scheduled breaks

• Ability to bring eligible family members

• Requirement to maintain OSHC, show financial capacity and meet Genuine Student criteria

Students may also apply under the Training Visa (Subclass 407) for workplace-based training programs.

Glovels Overseas Consultants supports students with document preparation, financial planning, statement drafting and compliance guidance to ensure a strong visa application.

04

Post Study Work Visa

Australia offers post-study work rights through the Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485), which includes:

Post-Higher Education Work Stream

For graduates of eligible bachelor, master or doctoral programs, typically allowing 2–4 years of work depending on qualification level and policy settings.

Graduate Work Stream

For graduates with vocational qualifications aligned with skill shortages, subject to eligibility lists.

These visa pathways allow students to gain professional experience in Australia and strengthen their long-term career prospects. Glovels Overseas Consultants assists students in selecting courses that maximise post-study opportunities.
