Why Study In Canada?

Canada offers a compelling blend of academic quality, affordability, global employability and a welcoming multicultural society. The country is home to top-ranking universities and colleges known for rigorous academic standards, modern facilities and strong industry connections. Degrees and diplomas earned in Canada are highly valued worldwide, opening pathways to diverse career opportunities.

One of Canada’s major advantages is its co-operative education (co-op) system, which integrates paid work placements into many academic programs. This allows students to graduate with both professional experience and a strong academic foundation—an asset that enhances employability across global markets. Canada also offers extensive support for research, innovation and entrepreneurship, making it a suitable destination for learners seeking hands-on learning experiences.

Students value Canada for its inclusive social environment and the security it offers. The country promotes cultural respect, freedom and equal opportunities for people of all backgrounds. With regulated tuition fees, affordable living options and flexible pathways from college to university, Canada provides excellent value for international students aiming for long-term growth.

Life In Canada?

Life for international students in Canada is a combination of academic engagement, cultural experiences and personal development. Cities such as Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Calgary and Ottawa offer cosmopolitan environments with diverse communities, vibrant art scenes, modern infrastructure and excellent public services.

Accommodation options vary depending on the city and institution. Students may choose on-campus residences, shared apartments, homestays or private rentals. While major cities tend to have higher living costs, smaller cities and regional areas provide more affordable alternatives without compromising quality of life.

Canada is well known for its outdoor lifestyle. Students can experience everything from lakes and national parks to winter sports and cultural festivals. Despite its cold winters, Canadian cities are well adapted with heated buildings, connected transit systems and indoor recreational areas.

The Canadian healthcare system is one of the most efficient in the world. International students receive medical coverage through provincial health plans (in eligible provinces) or institutional insurance schemes. Universities also provide academic support, career counselling, mental health services and settlement assistance to help students transition smoothly.

With part-time work options during study periods and full-time work opportunities during scheduled breaks, students can manage living expenses while gaining practical employment experience. Canada emphasises work–life balance and community engagement, making it an ideal environment for holistic student development.

More About Canada

Canada’s education and immigration systems underwent significant reforms between 2024–2026 to maintain quality, manage population growth and ensure housing availability. These reforms introduced stricter study permit requirements, updated financial criteria, new post-graduation work rules and provincial attestation systems.

While the number of new study permits is now controlled through an annual cap, Canada remains committed to attracting genuine international students who contribute to the workforce and economy. Programs in technology, healthcare, trades, engineering, business and applied sciences are especially aligned with Canada’s labour market needs.

Canada continues to offer strong post-study and permanent residence pathways. Graduates who integrate their education with work experience—through co-op programs, internships or the Post-Graduation Work Permit—often find clear routes into provincial nomination programs or federal immigration streams.

Glovels Overseas Consultants guides students through these transitions, ensuring they select programs that align with future workforce needs and meet evolving policy standards.

KEEP SCROLING

01

Intakes

Canada offers three main academic intakes:
Fall Intake (September):
The primary and most competitive intake with maximum program availability.

Winter Intake (January):
A widely available second intake, especially popular for college programs and selected bachelor’s and master’s degrees.

Spring/Summer Intake (May):

Offered primarily by colleges and specialised programs.

Due to provincial attestation requirements, reduced study permit allocations and higher application volumes, students should begin their application process 9–12 months in advance to secure admission and meet permit deadlines.

02

Language Requirements

Most Canadian institutions accept the following English proficiency tests:
IELTS Academic:
Common minimum: 6.0 for undergraduate programs and 6.5 for postgraduate programs, with specific band requirements.
TOEFL iBT:
Accepted by universities and colleges, with score thresholds comparable to IELTS.
PTE Academic:
Increasingly accepted for admissions at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Duolingo English Test:
Accepted for admission by many institutions, though not used for immigration assessments.

For French-language programs, tests such as TEF, TCF, DELF or DALF may be required depending on program level and institution.

Students must verify requirements based on their program, as competitive courses may demand higher proficiency standards.

03

Visa

To study in Canada for more than six months, students require a Study Permit, which now often involves additional steps introduced during 2024–2026 reforms.

Typical requirements include:
• A Letter of Acceptance from a Designated Learning Institution (DLI)
• A Provincial or Territorial Attestation Letter (PAL) in most cases
• Proof of funds meeting IRCC’s updated financial guidelines
• Valid passport and identity documents
• Statement of purpose or study plan
• Biometrics submission
• Medical examination (if required)
• Tuition payment receipts or proof of financial stability

Study permit approvals depend heavily on demonstrating genuine intent, credible financial capacity and realistic study-to-career alignment.

Glovels Overseas Consultants helps students prepare a strong profile under the new regulatory environment to maximise approval chances.

04

Post Study Work Visa

Canada offers the Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) to many graduates of eligible programs.
The PGWP is an open work permit allowing employment with any Canadian employer.

Key points include:
• Program must be at least eight months in duration
• Institution and program must be PGWP-eligible
• Work permit length may range from one to three years
• Master’s graduates often qualify for a full three-year PGWP
• Students must apply within 180 days of receiving graduation confirmation

Recent reforms focus on aligning PGWP eligibility with labour market needs, making program selection a critical step in long-term career planning. Glovels Overseas Consultants assists students in identifying programs that maximise PGWP potential and future immigration opportunities.
