Germany offers a strong mix of research-oriented data science degrees, interdisciplinary programmes and practice-focused courses at universities of applied sciences. Most public universities do not charge tuition, although notable exceptions now include TUM, FAU and universities in Baden-Württemberg.

The information below is intended for first-semester applicants from outside the EU/EEA who hold a foreign university degree. Deadlines reflect the latest official information available in July 2026. Semester contributions are intentionally excluded. The list given here is in no particular order of ranking.

1. Technical University of Munich — M.Sc. Data Engineering and Analytics

TUM’s programme is particularly suitable for students interested in big-data infrastructure, distributed systems, databases, machine learning and large-scale analytics.

Applicants with qualifications from outside Germany generally need preliminary documentation from uni-assist as part of the TUM application.

2. FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg — M.Sc. Data Science

FAU offers a mathematically rigorous programme covering statistics, machine learning, optimisation and computer science. It can also be studied part-time.

The new tuition rule begins with students newly enrolling in summer semester 2027. FAU also charges non-EU applicants a separate €100 application fee from winter semester 2026/27; this is not tuition.

3. TU Braunschweig — M.Sc. Data Science

TU Braunschweig combines computer science, mathematics and selected application fields in an English-taught, research-oriented programme.

The application window opens on 1 February for winter intake and 1 August for summer intake.

4. University of Mannheim — Mannheim Master in Data Science

The Mannheim programme combines computer science, mathematics and statistics, with access to courses in business, economics and the social sciences.

The €1,500 fee is the Baden-Württemberg tuition charge for international students from outside the EU/EEA. Statutory exemptions may apply.

5. University of Göttingen — M.Sc. Applied Data Science

Göttingen’s interdisciplinary programme allows students to combine core data-science methods with areas such as bioinformatics, neuroscience, medical data science, digital humanities or sustainability.

  • Winter semester deadline: 1 May

  • Summer semester deadline: 1 November of the preceding year

  • Intake: Winter and summer semesters; winter is recommended

  • Tuition: €0

  • Official programme page

Prospective applicants should check the programme’s current dMAT requirements well before the application deadline because suitable test dates may be several months earlier.

6. Freie Universität Berlin — M.Sc. Data Science

FU Berlin offers a selective English-taught programme with foundations in machine learning, statistics, programming and data-management methods.

Applicants with a foreign degree generally need a VPD from uni-assist. FU Berlin recommends requesting it approximately eight weeks before the 31 May deadline.

7. LMU Munich — M.Sc. Statistics and Data Science

This is LMU’s current statistics and data-science master’s programme. The older stand-alone M.Sc. Data Science no longer accepts new applications from winter semester 2025/26.

  • Department deadline for winter semester: 15 May

  • Additional LMU International Office deadline: 15 July

  • Department deadline for summer semester: 15 November

  • Additional LMU International Office deadline: 15 January

  • Intake: Winter and summer semesters

  • Tuition: €0

  • Official programme and application page

Non-EU applicants who are not treated as German-educated applicants must complete both the departmental application and the International Office application. Meeting only the later International Office deadline is insufficient.

8. Trier University — M.Sc. Data Science

Trier’s programme is supported by computer science, mathematics and statistics. It is research-focused and can be completed entirely in English.

Admission is generally valid for two consecutive semesters, but applicants should apply for their intended intake rather than relying on deferral.

9. TU Dortmund — M.Sc. Data Science

TU Dortmund’s programme has a particularly strong statistical and mathematical foundation. It is jointly delivered by the faculties of Statistics, Computer Science and Mathematics.

International applicants with foreign degrees apply through uni-assist. The 15 June winter deadline is a programme-specific exception to TU Dortmund’s usual English-taught master’s deadline.

10. University of Augsburg — M.Sc. Data Science

Augsburg offers an English-taught programme connected to the university’s Center for Advanced Analytics and Predictive Sciences.

  • Final winter semester deadline: 1 September

  • Recommended non-EU application date for winter: 1 May

  • Final summer semester deadline: 1 March

  • Recommended non-EU application date for summer: 1 December

  • Intake: Winter and summer semesters

  • Tuition: €0

  • Official programme page

The May and December dates are recommendations for applicants who need visas, not formal cut-off dates. Augsburg offers early admissions to give international students more time for visa processing.

11. University of Hildesheim — M.Sc. Data Analytics

Hildesheim’s research-oriented programme focuses on machine learning, data analytics, optimisation, big-data systems and the implementation of data-driven research projects.

  • Winter semester deadline for non-EU applicants: 30 June

  • Summer semester deadline for non-EU applicants: 15 December

  • Intake: Winter and summer semesters

  • Tuition: €0

  • Official programme page

The programme publishes its own application process and deadlines, which take precedence over the university’s general master’s deadlines.

12. TU Ilmenau — M.Sc. Data Science

This relatively new English-taught programme includes reinforcement learning, Bayesian and causal inference, data assimilation, uncertainty quantification and cloud-based data management.

  • Winter semester deadline for applicants with non-EU/EEA qualifications: 15 May

  • Summer semester deadline for applicants with non-EU/EEA qualifications: 15 November

  • Intake: Winter and summer semesters

  • Tuition: €0

  • Official programme page

The winter application period runs from 16 January to 15 May. The summer application period runs from 1 August to 15 November.

13. University of Marburg — M.Sc. Data Science

Marburg’s programme combines computer-science specialisations—such as data mining, algorithms and data management—with mathematical tracks in analytics or scientific computing.

Applicants with foreign university degrees normally apply through uni-assist.

14. Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf — M.Sc. Artificial Intelligence and Data Science

HHU’s official programme name is Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. It focuses on machine learning, deep learning, mathematical foundations and applications including NLP, computer vision and medical data.

The programme has restricted admission, and its application portal usually opens in early May.

15. University of Oldenburg — M.Sc. Data Science and Machine Learning
